What It Is

What Is Academic Coaching?

Academic coaching is a structured, student-centered support service that goes beyond tutoring. Where tutoring focuses on content, academic coaching focuses on the student — helping them develop the skills, habits, and mindset needed to succeed independently across all subjects.

AAIC's academic coaches work one-on-one and in small groups with students to build executive functioning skills including organization, time management, goal-setting, self-monitoring, and academic resilience.

This is empowerment — helping students understand how they learn best and equipping them with the tools to show up consistently for their own education.

How It Works

Our Approach

1

Student Assessment & Goal Setting

Each student begins with a structured intake identifying learning strengths, challenges, and goals. Coaches and students co-create a personalized coaching plan.

2

One-on-One & Small Group Sessions

Coaches meet regularly with students in school — working on organization systems, assignment planning, study strategies, and self-regulation techniques.

3

Executive Functioning Development

Sessions focus on core EF skills: task initiation, planning, working memory, flexible thinking, and emotional regulation in academic contexts.

4

Teacher & Family Collaboration

Coaches communicate with classroom teachers and families to ensure strategies are reinforced at home and aligned with classroom expectations.

5

Progress Monitoring

Student progress is tracked against coaching goals using observable data — assignment completion, grades, self-reported confidence, and teacher feedback.

6

Adaptive Coaching Plans

Coaching plans are reviewed and adjusted regularly based on student progress and evolving school priorities.
