Family &
Community Engagement
Parent workshops and engagement experiences that strengthen the connection between school and home - building a unified community around every student's success.
What Is AAIC's Family & Community Engagement Program?
Research is clear: when families are meaningfully engaged in their children's education, students achieve more, attend more regularly, and feel more connected to school. Yet for many schools - especially those serving diverse, under-resourced communities - building authentic family engagement is a persistent challenge.
AAIC's Family and Community Engagement program goes beyond sending newsletters home. We design and facilitate meaningful, culturally responsive experiences that bring families into the school community, build trust between school and home, and equip parents and caregivers with tools to actively support their children's learning.
We believe that families are not just supporters of education - they are partners in it. Our programs are designed to honor that belief.
Our Approach
Family Engagement Assessment
AAIC begins by assessing your school's current family engagement landscape - what's working, what barriers exist, and what families most need and want from the school.
Event Planning & Facilitation
AAIC plans and co-facilitates meaningful family engagement events - from Back to School Night and curriculum nights to cultural celebrations and student performance showcases.
Parent Education Workshops
Structured workshops provide parents with practical tools and information - covering topics like supporting reading at home, understanding school data, navigating academic planning, and college/high school preparation.
Culturally Responsive Communication
AAIC helps schools communicate with families in culturally affirming ways - including multilingual outreach, accessible materials, and welcoming environments for all families.
Community Partnership Development
AAIC helps schools identify and connect with community resources and partners that can extend support to families beyond the school day.
Family Feedback & Continuous Improvement
Family voice is gathered regularly through surveys and feedback sessions, informing ongoing improvement of school programs and communication.

Common Questions
What types of family engagement events does AAIC facilitate?
AAIC facilitates a wide range of family engagement events including Back to School Night, curriculum and literacy nights, cultural celebrations, student performance showcases, parent education workshops, and year-end celebrations. Events are designed to meet the specific interests and needs of each school's family community.
Is family engagement required for Title I compliance?
Yes. Family engagement is a required component of both Title I schoolwide programs and targeted assistance programs. Schools must have a written family engagement policy and allocate at least 1% of their Title I allocation to family engagement activities. AAIC's family engagement services directly support these requirements.
How do you make family events culturally responsive?
AAIC designs events with the school's specific community in mind - including multilingual outreach and materials, culturally affirming programming, flexible timing, and a welcoming, non-intimidating atmosphere. We work closely with school leadership to understand the community's culture, values, and engagement preferences.
What if our school has historically low family attendance?
Low family attendance is often a symptom of barriers - time, language, transportation, trust, or past negative experiences with schools. AAIC works to identify and reduce these barriers through outreach strategy, event design, and relationship-building. Partner schools consistently report significant increases in family attendance after implementing AAIC's family engagement programs.
Can family engagement programming support English learner families?
Yes. AAIC's family engagement program includes multilingual outreach and support for English learner families - connecting directly with AAIC's ESL and Multilingual Support services. We ensure that all families have meaningful access to school engagement opportunities regardless of language.
