& Intervention

Targeted math and reading instruction based on student need, designed to accelerate learning while aligning with classroom instruction and school priorities.

Supplemental Instruction

What Is Supplemental Instruction & Intervention?

Supplemental instruction and academic intervention is additional, targeted teaching provided to students who are struggling to meet grade-level expectations in core academic areas - primarily reading and mathematics.

AAIC's intervention programs are standards-aligned and designed to address skill gaps without replacing classroom instruction. Our instructors work alongside classroom teachers to deliver structured, data-informed support that accelerates student progress.

We serve students at the Tier 2 and Tier 3 levels - those who need more than core classroom instruction but who, with the right support, can close learning gaps and move toward on-grade-level performance.

Program Overview Video

Our Approach

1

Diagnostic Assessment

Every student begins with a diagnostic assessment - including iReady and other valid tools - to identify their current level, skill gaps, and instructional starting point.

2

Individualized Learning Plans

Based on assessment data, AAIC instructors develop individualized learning plans aligned to each student's specific gaps and grade-level standards.

3

Small-Group & One-on-One Instruction

Students receive targeted instruction in small groups (typically 3-6 students) or one-on-one, using multi-sensory, evidence-based approaches.

4

Progress Monitoring & Data Review

Student progress is monitored regularly using formative and benchmark assessments. Instructional approaches are adjusted based on data.

5

Teacher Collaboration

AAIC instructors coordinate regularly with classroom teachers to ensure intervention content reinforces - not conflicts with - classroom instruction.

6

Family Communication

Families receive regular updates on student progress and strategies to support learning at home, strengthening the school-home connection.

Common Questions

What does 'supplemental' mean - does this replace classroom instruction?

No. Supplemental instruction is additional support provided on top of core classroom instruction. AAIC never replaces the classroom teacher - we provide extra targeted time and instruction to help students who need more support.

What subjects does AAIC's intervention program cover?

Our primary intervention focus is reading and mathematics - the two areas most commonly measured by diagnostic tools like iReady and most directly connected to grade-level performance. We also support writing and language arts as appropriate.

Is this program eligible for Title I funding?

Yes. AAIC's supplemental instruction and intervention services are a primary use of Title I equitable services funds for eligible students at nonpublic schools. We provide all documentation required for compliance.

How do you group students for instruction?

Student grouping is based on diagnostic assessment data - typically iReady. Groups are formed based on similar skill levels and needs, and are adjusted regularly as students progress.

What assessment tools do you use?

AAIC primarily uses iReady for diagnostic and progress monitoring purposes, supplemented by curriculum-based measures, teacher observation, and school-provided assessment data.

How quickly will we see results?

Most schools begin to see measurable progress within one semester of consistent intervention. AAIC's FY25 data shows 89.3% of students demonstrating positive iReady scale score growth from fall to spring with an average of 138% of annual typical growth.
